The Department of Management Studies, Goa University (GUDMS), is located on the picturesque Taleigao Plateau, Seven (7) Kilometers from Goa’s Capital city, Panjim. Its Masters of Business Administration (MBA) Program was initiated (in 1988) in collaboration with Jamnalal Bajaj Institute Management, Mumbai, and Faculty from the NarseeMonjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai. MBA Programme

MBA

Masters of Business Administration is offered as a two-year full time (approved by AICTE) course with the specialization area Finance, Human Resource and Marketing that aims to sharpen the managerial skills of students, and a liberal dosage of perspective building electives and soft skills courses are added to ensure that students’ overall personality is shaped. The trimester system we adopt provides us with a pace that keeps the students on their toes throughout the two years. The evaluation is a dynamic continuous process, where traditional closed-book examinations are banned by ordinance. This demands from each faculty that he designs each evaluation component to test individual competencies that were planned for the course.

IMBA

The Department Of Management Studies at Goa University started with the 5 years Integrated MBA (Hospitality, Travel, and Tourism) program from this academic year. Goa being a tourist destination it was but natural to have an academic program that ensures that students have the technical skills and knowledge that will help them to tap the huge market potential and face the challenges in the Hospitality, Travel and Tourism sectors not only at a local level but also globally. It is a 5-year full-time course that adopts the Case Study Method of the Harvard / IIM Type. Moreover, Industry Internships every year and regular interactions with the executives from the Industry provides students with much needed corporate exposure. The program is divided into 19 terms and each term has components that finally ensure that by the end of the program students are professionals ready to meet the international demands. As it is an integrated program student have the option of joining the industry after 3 years to gain industry experience. They also have the option of continuing their MBA or move from the undergraduate program to the post-graduate program within the same institution subject to meeting academic requirements.

Admission Procedure

For MBA

The prospective candidate should be graduates from any statutory university with min. 50 % marks (45 % for SC / ST / OBC). A student appearing for final year examinations can apply but their admission will be subject to qualifying at the examination. The qualifying cut-off for each year is determined on the basis of the scores of the applicants to the Institute, in the entrance test in that year. For admission to the MBA program for only those candidates who register for the XLRI Admissions Test (XAT) of Xavier Labour Relations Institute, Jamshedpur (XLRI) which held in January may apply for admission to the Goa University. The selection of students shall be on the basis of CMAT. After clearing the CMAT / XAT  group discussion and personal interview will be held to shortlist the student.

For IMBA

To get admission in IMBA student must be Pass XIIth standard. Those who are expecting their results by the admission date may also apply. The qualifying cut-off for each year is determined on the basis of the scores of the applicants to the Institute, in the entrance test in that year. For admission to the IMBA program only those candidates apply for admission to the Goa University who register for the UGAT Test conducted by AIMA which will be held on 12th May.

Facilities

Goa University(GUDMS) has a computerized library with fully automated services and over 1,10,000 book titles. These include over 4000 titles of management books. Other than this we also have numerous journals and periodicals including the likes of Harvard Business Review, Forbes, and Management Accounting. There is also access to detailed projects completed by the alumni. The students can access many library resources online including EBSCO, Capitaline, etc. Online catalogs of libraries of other institutes within the state can also be accessed from the Goa University Library website and a full-fledged separate Book bank for the Management students.

Goa Institute of Management

The Goa Institute of Management (GIM) is a premier business school in India located in the state of Goa. The autonomous school is governed by a board, and offers a full-time MBA (PGDM) program (2 years), full-time MBA (PGDM)-Healthcare Management Programme (HCM) and executive MBA (3 years) and also is a resource centre for Ph.D. programs in management for Goa University. Current MBA classes have a size of approximately 240 students and the Healthcare MBA class has a size of 60 students. Located at Sanquelim as well as Ribandar, the business school was founded in 1993 when Romuald D’Souza (ex-Director – XLRI, Jamshedpur, and XIMB, Bhubaneswar) moved from XIM, Bhubaneswar to create a center of learning and excellence in Goa. He along with Anwar Ali, C.M. Ramesh, RanjiniSwamy, V. Gopal, Suma Damodaran, and UdayDamodaran started the institute.

From the year 2010 GIM began shifting most of its academic courses to a new state-of-the-art campus located around 23 kilometers from the old one. The new campus at Sanquelim in Sattari is located on a sprawling 50 acre plot surrounded by the idyllic foothills of the Western Ghats. The entire project cost has been estimated at approximately Rs 63 crore. The new campus was inaugurated by Ashok Ganguly, RajyaSabha MP and former Chairman of Hindustan Lever Ltd on the 24th of March 2012.

PGDM Programme

Similar to most other B-schools in India, GIM currently offers diplomas in management and not degrees. The institute currently offers the following programs

Post Graduate Diploma in Management – Full Time

 The Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) is the flagship program of GIM. It is a two-year, full-time residential program. The first year comprises a core program consisting of compulsory courses on the basics of every discipline in management aimed at developing a common foundation in management theory. Students need to select one Major and one Minor specialization from among the following offered – Marketing, Finance, HR, Operations.

Post Graduate Diploma in Management – Part-Time

The Post Graduate Diploma in Management – Part-Time (PGDM–PT) program is a three-year part-time MBA program designed for working professionals. The curriculum is designed to develop both conceptual and skill-based competencies. It broadly follows the pattern proposed by the AICTE. It consists of core courses offered in the first year, elective courses offered in the second year, and project work in the third year. It is run from the heritage Ribandar campus. It has a total intake of 60 students per year.

Admission Procedure

Shortlisting for PGDM shall be based on XAT, CAT, GMAT, or CMAT score of the candidates. The final selection for PGDM full time and part-time will be made on the basis of objective assessment (40% weightage), the candidate’s past academic performance (15% weightage), work experience, if any (10% weightage), performance in the face to face evaluation process (30 % weightage) and composite diversity index (5% weightage). This is subject to obtaining the desired proficiency in written communication and a minimum score for each evaluation component. The objective assessment shall be based on XAT, CAT, GMAT, or CMAT score. Shortlisting for face-to-face evaluation shall be on the basis of profiles (XAT, CAT, GMAT or CMAT score, qualification, past academic performance, and work experience) for PGDM. Shortlisted candidates shall be invited for the interview process in various cities at the beginning of March.

Admission Procedure

  1. S. Dempo College of Commerce & Economics offers two-year full-time PGDBA to get admission in that program prospective student must hold a bachelor’s degree with 50 % marks (for SC/ ST / OBC 45 % ) . The college valid performance in CMAT / XAT. After clearing the CMAT / XAT group discussion and personal interview round conduct in order to finalize the admission process.

Facilities

Computer Lab: This computer lab is used for the purpose of B.Com. program. It is equipped with 25 desktop computer systems including one IBM Server. All the systems are LAN (Local Area Network) networked. The lab is also provided with a broadband Internet facility. The LAN connection runs with the help of 2 LAN switches on 2 parallel modems. In case if 1 modem is unavailable/nonoperational the other could be used. Besides the Lab also has Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) Internet access. The lab is also equipped with modern teaching aid including LCD Projector, White Board, and speaker system for providing multimedia-based teaching-learning environments. General facilities like air conditioning and CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) cameras are also installed in this lab.

Sports Infrastructure: The institution provides indoor sports facilities in the college gymkhana for table tennis, chess, and carom. The students are trained for outdoor games by hiring the sports facilities provided by the Directorate of Youth Affairs and Sports in the Panjim city.

Library: The library of this institution has rich resources of academic and non-academic resources. It has a collection of more than 30000 books on various subjects.
